No rest for the weary

I can't believe another week has gone by. I feel like I've been sprinting through the last few days. We've been very busy around here. School is still the same. I actually had to work on school stuff today just to be ready for tomorrow. I can't remember the last time I worked on a Sunday. I don't know if I ever have. I hate that I feel like I didn't get a weekend. Ah, well. I'm putting the hours in now so that next time around, it will be easier. Or something like that.
James has had a big week, too. His band played out again this Friday, and my mom and dad were able to make the trip down from Logan to hear him. Little Man is still not sure about Grandpa, but we had a good time visiting. I'm so glad that we've been able to see them so often since Little Man has been born. We've all really made an effort to see each other at least once a month, if not more.
Little Man had the biggest week of all. He went in for his 6 month check-up on Tuesday. He's now 27 inches long (between the 75th and 90th percentile) and weighs 14 lbs 13 oz (10th percentile). He keeps getting longer and longer, and isn't putting on the weight to match. The doctor didn't seem very concerned about the drop in the weight (percentile wise, anyway), especially because he's a lot more active now, but I'm stressing out about it. He's a good eater, and he seems like he gets full, but I'm convinced he's not getting enough. We've doubled up on the solids this weekend and Little Man seems just as content as always. Once again, I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing.
Little Man also had to get shots at his appointment, which meant I finally had a good reason to give him some Motrin, which means that, for the first time in a week, he slept straight through the night. He's been getting us out of bed up to 8 times a night. He usually takes his binky and settles right back in, but then he's up again in an hour. I'm dying. I think he's teething (ok, I'm pretty sure he's teething, but I don't know if that's the reason for the sleeplessness) and when we gave him medicine for the shots, I think it helped his mouth, too. The most frustrating thing is that he's completely fine during the day; he's happy, takes good naps, and is an all-around awesome baby. I hate giving him medicine when I don't know if he really needs it, so now that he's feeling better, he's been getting up again. How bad of a mom would I be if I "drugged" my baby so that we can all get some sleep?

Little Man got to try using a sippy cup for the first time this week. I handed it to him and he knew just what to do with it. He grabbed it by the handle, then tipped it up to his mouth. He didn't drink much (I think more went down the front of him than went down into the tummy) but we're going to keep practicing.
Little Man is getting so much better at sitting up. He can sit independently for quite a long time now and can even manage to play with a toy while he's sitting. Here he is playing with one of his new toys.

The doctor told us that Little Man was old enough to try feeding himself a teething biscuit, but when I went to the store to get him some, I was unimpressed by the selection and by the ingredients list of the ones that they did carry. (Am I the only one who is slightly nutty about what I'll feed my baby? I hope not.) Instead, we tried a rice cake. No artificial ingredients, and we already know he doesn't have any allergies or anything with rice. Plus, they dissolve really easily. I gave it to him, and for the first time ever, he didn't put it directly into his mouth. He played with it more than anything. Again, we're going to keep practicing.

We tried giving Little Man some peas for dinner last night; his first green veggie! I thought for sure he'd pull a face, but he just gobbled the whole container down like always. We haven't really found anything he won't eat yet. He's a good eater!

He is such a babe. And a smarty! He just keeps wowing the pants off me. Of course he's smart though. Why wouldn't he be? You two are the biggest brainiacs I know!

I'm so sorry he's been sleeping kind of poopy! I feel for you. And you know I was nutty about what I fed Seth when he was a baby!

Oh yeah, and I heard from a friend that the book "super baby food" is really good. It teaches you how to make all of your own baby foods.
